Here are a few ways that your fitness routine may be causing unexpected damage, and what you can do to prevent it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Daily Grind<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you lift heavy weights or exert excess energy, some people tend to subconsciously clench their jaw or grind their teeth. This can not only cause jaw soreness and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) issues, but it can also cause your teeth to become worn, chipped, or cracked. Thus, it may be beneficial to speak to your dentist about a bite guard that can help absorb some of the pressure you\u2019re putting on your teeth as you\u2019re clenching down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knock it Off<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you play a sport, injuries can be very common, including to your teeth. Players of sports like football, baseball, basketball, and hockey should all wear a mouthguard, but don\u2019t forget to wear it when rollerblading, playing volleyball, and even pickleball, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sweet Surrender<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sports drinks can help provide necessary hydration and electrolytes, but they can also be full of sugar and artificial colors. If plain water won\u2019t suffice, be sure to brush your teeth well after consuming sports, protein, or energy drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pay Attention to PH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Studies have shown that people who exercise have more alkaline saliva, which can neutralize the proteins that kill bad bacteria. Thus, it is crucial to your oral health to stay hydrated when working out, as failure to do so can increase your risk of cavities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, people who work out are also more likely to breathe through their mouths, which also dries out the mouth and allows those bacteria to proliferate.
